AMHERST COUNTY, Va. – Marijuana legalization is a very hot-button problem in the Commonwealth, and Amherst County is thinking of a referendum from hashish-based organizations.
The Board of Supervisors achieved Tuesday and discussed the probability of banning dispensaries, wholesalers, producers and farms in the location.
The new legalization would enable about 400 cannabis dispensaries during Virginia.
But county leaders say it could lead to tragedies, which includes death, so the final decision need to be up to voters.
“If the ability is there for the neighborhood to have enter, my sensation is we allow them have their input. That way if one thing happens to 1 of our families tragically, they just cannot say, ‘well, that board up there, they claimed it was okay to do it,’ and whatever. I’m not getting parts of that. Enable the individuals have the determination,” explained Supervisor Jimmy Ayers.
The board voted unanimously to have personnel get the job done with the registrar’s office to get the referendum on a ballot as before long as attainable.
